Yes, at participating Auto Care Centers. On our dated data, Walmart installs a qualifying Walmart battery for $0 labour. If you bring a battery you bought somewhere else, Walmart lists a $15 per-battery charge to fit it. Both figures come from a third-party source, so confirm them with your store.
| Walmart’s own battery | Battery bought elsewhere | |
|---|---|---|
| Fitting | Free | $15 per battery (third-party) |
| Battery price (third-party range) | $80 to $190 | Depends on where you bought it |

Where “free” has limits
Free fitting is not a promise for every car. Three things commonly decide it:
- The store. Not every Walmart has an Auto Care Center, and hours and booking rules vary.
- The car. Batteries in the boot, under a seat or behind a wheel arch are often excluded because they take longer or need special tools. Ask with your exact year, make and model.
- The battery. Cars with start-stop need AGM or EFB, and some cars need the new battery registered to the car’s computer. Read battery registration and coding and ask whether they can do it.
What to ask before you drive over
- Do you have my battery in stock for this car, and what type is it?
- Will you fit it here, and is my car on your “can’t fit” list?
- What is the core charge, and do I get it back at the counter?
- What is the warranty, and is it honoured at other branches?
- Can you test my charging system while it is on the bench?
Our quote checklist has these and more in a printable list.
Is Walmart the cheapest option?
Often close to it. Walmart and the warehouse clubs sit at the low end of the ranges we track, and free fitting removes the labour that independent shops charge. Costco does not install, so a low shelf price there can turn into a higher total. We compare them in Costco vs Walmart car batteries.
Run your own numbers in the calculator, and confirm the final price with the store. Prices change and vary by location.
