Cheaper Than a New Pack
- Labour and fees typically add $1,500 to $3,000 to the part.
- Module or component repair: $3,000 to $8,000.
- Independent refurbished packs: about $8,000 to $10,000.
Tesla Battery Warranty
8 years or 100,000 miles, 70% minimum capacity. 8 years or 120,000 miles, 70% minimum capacity. Because these terms came from a third-party article, confirm them on tesla.com for your exact car. Check yours with the EV battery replacement cost calculator.
Most EVs also carry a regular 12V battery. If that is what has failed, see car battery replacement cost.
What Drives a Tesla Battery Bill
A replacement bill is more than the pack. It includes the part, labour to remove and fit a heavy battery, diagnostics, and software or calibration steps. Prices differ by variant because bigger packs hold more energy: our table shows the Long Range and Performance versions costing more than Standard Range. Where the work is done matters too. Tesla service, independent EV specialists and mobile technicians all price differently, and their warranties on the repair differ.
Do You Actually Need a New Pack?
Many reported battery problems are not a failed pack. Reduced range can come from degradation within the normal range, a software or sensor fault, or a few failing modules. Before you accept a quote for a full pack, ask for a diagnostic report that shows the battery's health and which part failed. If only modules are at fault, a module repair is often much cheaper, and the figures above show how large the gap can be.
Your Warranty First
For the Model 3, the figures we have are 8 years, with 100,000 miles on Standard Range and RWD versions or 120,000 miles on Long Range and Performance, and a minimum capacity of 70%. That means a battery that has lost more than its allowed capacity inside the warranty window can qualify even if the car still drives. Confirm the exact terms for your car's year and variant on tesla.com, because third-party summaries can be out of date. Use our EV calculator to compare your age and mileage with the warranty before you contact anyone.
Questions to Ask Before You Pay
- Is a battery health report available, and what does it show?
- Is this a new, remanufactured or refurbished pack, and who stands behind it?
- How long is the warranty on the replacement, and does it transfer if I sell the car?
- Does the quote include labour, taxes and any recycling or core arrangement?
- What happens to my old pack?
Tesla's Other Battery
Like other EVs, a Tesla also has a smaller 12V battery that runs low-voltage electronics. If a warning appears about low-voltage power or the car will not wake, that battery can be the cause, and it costs far less than a traction pack. Read our guide to the 12V battery in hybrids and EVs, and price a standard replacement with the calculator.
Models We Are Still Researching
Model Y, Model S and Model X prices are not published here because we could not source them. We would rather leave them out than guess. When we add them they will appear with a source and a date in the same table.
What Falling Battery Prices Mean for You
Industry pack prices have been falling, with BloombergNEF reporting an average of $108 per kWh in 2025. That is the cost to carmakers buying packs in volume, not what an owner pays for a replacement with labour and margin, so it will not translate directly into your quote. It does suggest that replacement and refurbished options should keep getting cheaper over time. See do EV batteries really need replacing? for more.
